Being a huge fan of dining out for breakfast on the weekend and visiting with others, we feel it is a wonderful way to start our day. When my husband and I heard about another café opening in the city of West Lafayette, Indiana, we were excited to try a new place for our weekend breakfast together. We enjoy supporting local small businesses.
”Early Bird Café” is a unique, local small business that opened in the fall of 2024, located in the Brindon Plaza, near Monical’s Pizza, West Lafayette, Indiana. They are open every day from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. As we think to ourselves, we are in an inflation and businesses have struggled with pricing, supply costs, and so on, we decided to visit the new café…. could this be a diamond in the ruff that others have not discovered yet?
The Early Bird Café, a local small business, opened late fall of 2024, and has gained customers, especially with the church crowds on Sunday. We were amazed that their business, in an inflation, has attracted customers so quickly. Their website, (https://earlybirdcafewl.com/), is straight forward and plain. It is easy to use, but our opinion is it doesn’t give the café enough exposure. The website has useful information, several pictures in their photo gallery of their delicious dishes, a menu, and the ability to content them directly. I was a little disappointed when reading the ”About" area on the website. I would have enjoyed reading more about their company, their mission, how they got started, if there is another location, if this is a family business, and so on.
We decided to check out the café on a Saturday morning. As we entered the café, we were greeted by the host at the door. He collected two menus and silverware, then showed us to our table. As we walked through the café, we were amazed by the number of artificial plants cascading from hangers and baskets throughout the entire café. The colors of the artificial plants were green, purple, and white. It was beautiful! We sat down at our table admiring the décor. The longer we sat there amazed by the scenery, it felt a little overwhelming, yet so beautiful.
The entire restaurant was clean and well organized. The seating was tight, but the atmosphere was very pleasing. The host was also our waiter. He took our drink order and gave us a few minutes to decide. He was very polite and patient. He returned to take our order. We informed him this was our first time here. He was extremely pleased and told us about a few preferred choices. My husband ordered the breakfast skillet. I ordered a veggie omelet with ham. It came with potatoes and toast. He thanked us for our order and left the table.

This local small business has created a delicious menu. It is organized and has affordable prices. There is a variety of choices starting with pancakes and crepes, omelets, skillets, burritos and quesadillas, burgers, sandwiches, salads, Coke products, other drinks, and sides. There is a House Special and Combos section which offers a variety of dishes, including breakfast dishes, an 8 oz. sirloin steak, 10 oz. ribeye, country fried steak, smoked sausage, and deep fried chilaquiles triangles. There is a kid’s menu on the back.
As we waited on our meals to arrive, we noticed how peaceful and quiet the café seemed. It was nice not to fight a crowd or talk loudly to each other, due to the extra noise from other people and a noisy kitchen, which is what we have experienced with other dining places. Since the Early Bird Café is new, it’s as if it is our secret get-away for now, at least until more people discover this wonderful dining establishment. We sat across from each other, enjoying our drinks, and had long conversations with each other. What a wonderful way to start the morning.
Shortly after ordering, we see the waiter coming with our food. Everything looks delicious. He asked us if we needed anything else. I thanked him for asking and complimented him of how delicious this coffee was. I asked him about the type of coffee. He said it was Columbian coffee. I told him it was delicious! He said it was the owner’s favorite. I requested a refill and thanked the waiter for such good service. We enjoyed our delicious meals together. As we looked across at each other, we knew we were coming back another day.
The waiter checked back with us several times to make sure we were okay and asked if we needed anything. It was nice to receive excellent customer service and a delicious meal, to start our day.
Overall, we give this café a 4.5-star rating and highly recommend others to try the Early Bird Café.
Enjoy your dining experience. (We did!)
